Okay, I am one of those people that said "I will never let my kid....". Whether I was talking about clothes, how their hair is done, the tantrums in public, etc... but I am now eating my words! I still try to have Londyn's hair done, cute (non-cartoon) clothes, face clean and matching shoes but there are some days it is impossible. However those days are because of me and my lack of....I dont know what you want to call it, energy or not wanting to fight with her. With Halloween I still have a strong opinion about costumes and for now I have all the say in what Londyn is going to be. I am not into the same store bought costume every other little kid is wearing. I am getting sick of princesses, the store bought witch and baby costumes (well pajamas and a bottle). I do understand just like everything else I may be eating my words starting next year.
I believe society has gotten lazy with costumes. It doesnt take a lot of creativity and talent to come up with a good costume and even a store bought costume can be changed so it is different. Grey NEVER had a store bought costume and his costumes were always awesome! I know most of you are saying "well his mom is queen of costumes" but I will remind you she has only been "queen of costumes" for the last 6 years. She started with Halloween. I challenge everyone to get creative next year with costumes. Let your child help you create their costume whether it is buying a princess outfit then adding more material and sparkles to make it different. Or making a witch costume with a twist.
With that said... This year as I was thinking of a cute creative costume for Londyn it dawned on me one day "she looks just like an Oompa Loompa" That is where it all started. I love the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie and wanted to create a costume just like the movie. With a little felt and some markers this is what we came up with....

Then as my sister was trying to decide what she was going to be I thought "what about following the theme and being a Wonka Bar". She loved it! So with a little more felt, hot glue and a golden ticket...here was the best Wonka Bar costume....

We soon got an invitation for a party we had to dress up for so what theme did we follow? You guessed it! Syd borrowed the Wonka Bar Costume, Troy was the new Willy Wonka, Grey was Agustus Gloop (he made his costume! If he can do it, you can) and I was Violet (lame costume but when you are making everyone elses you kind of forget about yours). Sorry I could not post this picture, it would not read the URL so I will try to get it.
It was a good Halloween and although Londyn was scared of every costume with a mask or face paint she got through and loved being an Oompa Loompa.
