How to ruin Mac and Cheese

Since we are living with the in-laws I have offered to cook for everyone two days a week. I have the hardest time thinking lately (as you have previously read) so I asked Grey what he wanted for dinner. His favorite meals are pretty easy, i.e.... tacos, brats, meat and potatoes, and the winner of the night (drum roll please.....) homemade chicken nuggets and homemade mac and cheese! Exciting huh. Well I didnt argue because it was easy for me and it really is a good meal. Well the chicken nuggets were easy but the mac and cheese was a different story. I got a recipe online but when I went to the store if forgot the velveeta (which was okay because I am not a huge fan) and I didnt have the time to bake it (Grey wanted the kind that is baked). Well, its a good thing my sister just cooked homemade mac and cheese the night before. I guess our husbands like the same meals. She quickly told me how she made the sauce for the noodles and I began... Well I will let the pictures tell the story.

Okay this is the first attempt. It was so nasty... I think I added the milk too fast then when I added the cheese all of the sudden the milk and butter separated! The cheese was lumpy and Kinzy kept saying "just put a little on the noodles and see if it tastes fine". She did not understand how bad it was. But I started a new batch and my mother-in-law stepped in and saved me so I could get the nuggets going. Its a good thing because hers looked a lot more appetizing.
After one mistake I could totally make it right from now on. It was very very good... in fact so good I didnt take a picture of the final product, which was my plan, because I wanted to dig in.
moral of the story: dont give up cooking if you mess up once.

I agree. You cannot give up. I am a much better cook now after being married 14 yrs and having the experience and opportunity to test recipes out a little bit. Homemade mac and cheese is awesome. I am sure it was wonderful to eat. Good job.AH

That's funny that Grey's favorite meal is Mac and Cheese. He used to puke every time he ate cheese when he was a kid. It's true! Ask him!
